The Backyard Terrace and Waterfall
When these clients came to us, they were
living in a suburban house with a wide, bare backyard
that bordered a wooded area. What they wanted was a
series of soothing, tranquil outdoor living spaces in
which to relax and entertain during evenings and weekends.
Christie's created three outdoor rooms that transformed
the property into a haven.

Water was an important element
to the clients, and the waterfall became the central
element of our design in the sunny backyard space.
From the small deck adjacent to the house, a large
terrace would lead to the waterfall and water pools
that would be laid on a diagonal across the width
of the yard. |

The Waterfall
|
The terrace and waterfall living area became a space
in which the clients could, in just a few steps
from the house, soak up the tranquil sounds and
sights of Nature. The terrace provides a full view
of the waterfall and water pools, creating a restorative
sanctuary. |
|
Once the backyard landscaping
was finished, Christie's replaced the deck and
enclosed it with a railing that created a sense
of privacy in a sitting area close to the house,
while still providing a connection to the goings-on
inside, and, at the same time, views of the backyard.
The team also redesigned the path of the steps
from the deck, to provide easy quick, access to
the outdoor kitchen, circumventing the pond.

 |
Adjacent to the terrace, Christie's
designed and installed a stone kitchen, complete
with refrigerator, warming ovens, disposal and built-in
range. The outdoor kitchen enables the clients to
remain outside much of the time during the spring
and fall, in touch with all the elements of Nature.
Guests are treated to relaxing, unforgettable evenings
of falling water, fresh air, beautiful stonework,
and a lovely landscape. |
Redesigned Front Patio
Christie's transformed a crumbling front
patio into a bluestone terrace with a white pergola
to the left of the door, a trellis to the right and
a sitting wall capped in bluestone. The team developed
the front and back yards and, with seasonal maintenance,
continue to evolve them over time.

walkway that leads from the street to the front

to the right and a sitting wall capped in bluestone

Country Fixer Upper
The client requested that the existing
driveway be moved and a total re- landscaping of the
area be done to create an inviting front yard on this
rural property. Christie's tore out the old driveway,
installed a new one along a new path, cleared out tree
stumps, and regraded the space for a complete redo.
The team built retaining walls, islands
of plants and foliage, stairways, and a flowing terrace,
punctuated with boulders, to transform a driveway into
an expansive, entrancing area of outdoor living.

to this country fixer upper. Before and After speak
