The rain is pounding! You just know the new mulch they put down after the new plantings is probably all over your front walk.
Late for your appointment, you rush outside, the rain drumming on your umbrella.
You can’t believe it! The walk is clear! You can even wear your new shoes to get to your car and not have wet feet all day.
You think "nice to have something work the way they said it would."
Tackling the Necessities
Drainage issues are a great opportunity for us to take a problem and turn it into a garden feature. We always address drainage issues before any other work or design. The pictures on the left column show three solutions to drainage issues.
Stone Creek
A stone creek which runs as a stream when it rains. Prior to this it was a mud/clay area with constant muck in it.
Stone Walkway
The stone walkway is a dry lay with no cement where water percolates to a 2 by 2 foot drain system. The yard used to fill up with 2 feet of rain with a downpour.
Landscape Retaining Wall
The 3rd picture directs huge amounts of rain from a slanted driveway to exactly this spot- bumping off a small stone retaining wall.
Other necessities are air conditioning, recycling & garbage can covers, and a low inexpensive cinder block wall with a stucco finish to hold a hillside.
