The client's vision was to create a backyard with a
wide terrace and pergola that overlooked a central fountain
as the garden's focal point. Beyond the property line
of the house was a stand of woods, which Christie's
pushed back by 15 feet. Christie's created a design
that integrated all the elements, establishing a pleasing
line of sight in a series of semi circles moving out
to the property line and woods. This included reshaping
the existing terrace and flower beds. Flanking the fountain,
woodland plantings carry the eye seamlessly from yard
to woods. Beyond the woodland planting, a richly landscaped
pathway leads lead into the woods, an irresistible invitation
to walking.
For these and other plantings close to the house,
Christie's used 2 types of trees, 9 types of shrubs,
5 types of perennials and annuals and 2 types of groundcover
and vines.
