Before & After

Your landscapes are transformed into luxury gardens that serve the purpose of making you feel restful and enlightened.

Before and after pictures may give you gardening ideas on how to clean up existing beds, enhance stone or water features or create and execute major design and installation changes.

Sometimes we impact all of these garden features for one residential property.

Japanese Garden near St. Christopher’s School

A jungle of boxwoods, liriope, random slate and azaleas is what we found.

We shaped the Japanese garden to use her inventory. Healthy English boxwoods are left in place. Random slate buried under liriope is used on the pathway.

The new pebble path and soil berm weave through boxwoods.

Hostas and hellebores are transplanted from the chaos and used closer to the new Asian terrace.

Other bright perennials were added to help perk up the palette in the deep shade. The client is thrilled, and is one of our greatest fans!

Japanese Garden After

Thank you, Christie and Kevin! My Japanese rock garden is a living work of art. I described to them what I wanted and he drew up the plans with lots of shade-loving plants, including pachysandra, plum yews, autumn fern, dwarf Mondo grass. The crew was fantastic and committed to the job. Kevin gave me tips on caring for the plants and he set up an above ground sprinkler system for me. Christie stayed within my budget, which made me very happy and I look forward to more landscaping work with Christie’s Fine Gardening!

Parterre on Monument Avenue

Careful planning and measuring helps this garden pop.

Clean angular gravel for the walkway is less costly, and serves as the clean hardscape space.

The decorative antique planter changes for fresh annually for a splash of color.

Justin Brower boxwoods are pricey, but critical in maintaining the tight green hedge.

Using all the Garden Features – West End Richmond in Whitaker Woods

These stone colors for the terrace, seat wall, pathway and fountain base have a startling effect on all the layers of the hardscape.

From her large family room windows, she looks down at the granite fountain encircled with lilac colored brick and the paver terrace edged in the purple brick color.

The lilac color is picked up in the stripe on the techno bloc seat wall.

The meandering walkway through the woods is expanses of color through the woods.

The play set was moved farther back and angled to the terrace. Grandchildren easily avoid lingering humans, birds or animals who may be at the fountain.

White encore azaleas, hostas and ferns fill up just some of garden space.

Christie and Kevin have completely remade my yard (front and back) from a neglected, weedy, overgrown mess into a beautiful, interesting, and livable green space in the city. They began 9 years ago, and continue to add to its intrigue and charm. The compliments from neighbors and passersby are constant.

A Jewel of House that Sparkles Near St. Christopher’s School

We removed huge dead trees, tree stumps and old bushes.

We designed and built a 40′ stone retaining wall, evergreen shrubs and fragrant colorful shrubs with seasonal color and variegated leaves.

A paver lined driveway pull-in gives a tidy look to the front!

Rustic planter pots are hand picked by Christie, and add the perfect scale and color to match the newly painted front door.

New Outdoor Room near Short Pump Decking, Fountain, Terrace and Vegetable Garden

We ripped out a rotting old deck and re-designed the shape to allow more seating room.

Two sets of stairs were widened and one set angled for a dramatic effect.

Two sunrise motifs were designed and incorporated in the railing and serve as garden accents or ‘hanging pictures’ on the deck.

Drainage work included directing water that poured off the roof away from the new terrace and planting bed.A French drain runs underneath and away from the dry lay terrace.

The stone terrace is a Golden Sunset flagstone. The seat wall nearby is made of Heather Gray thin stone and the seat capstone is a bull nosed limestone.

One of the most rewarding parts of our garden renovation was turning our backyard into a relaxing retreat. We especially love the unique design of our backyard.
