Notice more Stunning, Vibrant Colors in the Warm/Chill of November

As I revel in these warm days of early November, I find myself wondering if the blooms on flowers are more vibrant than they were a month ago?”

I have checked the web for articles on bloom colors being more beautiful with late cooling temperatures. I can’t find much on the web, but my brain knows its true!

Sesanquah camellia

Petal colors have depth and almost look waxy right now. I have given a few rose petals I brought inside a tug, and found they held on to the center of the plant and didn’t drop off as they did in the summer.

Roses I find especially stunning right now. As my mentor Martha said, ”September and October are the best time for roses in Richmond.”  November rose blooms never entered our conversation!

Here are the clearest photos from my garden that I could get.  I was going for the color!

Roses

Knock out roses

Drift roses

Perennials

Black and blue salvia

Russian sage

Butterfly bush

Orange berries on poets laurel

Annuals

Zinnias

Blue daze

Mandeville

I hope that besides lounging in a warm spot in your back yard this weekend, you can take a stroll in your garden or anyone’s garden and see what striking blossoms you may find.  Look for a flash of color on even the most dreary plant.
