Mexican Bush Sage

Salvias are one of the largest and showiest groups of flowering perennials there are. Because it doesn’t stand out very well amongst all the colors in the spring, I sometimes forget about this Mexican bush Sage (Salvia leucantha)…until now.

The blue green soft leaves and purple velvet flowers calyces with white edging seem to get lusher and deeply colored as cold weather hits. They need well-drained soil with full to part sun. They are woody by the end of the season so cut them almost to the ground in early spring and fertilize them well.
