Rain, the Eclipse, and Plants
I wanted to write a short blog on the exceptional beauty of this Spring as plants flower and fruit.
Abundant Rain
I think 27” of rain in the past 4 month is the primary reason. Plants have had so much water infiltrating the ground, that its roots can go deep. As I look around I notice the leaves of my Japanese maple are thicker and vivid in their pink/orange/red color .
I usually have to prune lots of dead out of my Japanese Snowball (Styrax) tree. This year I find no dead bits of stems, but instead the tree has 4 and 5 blooms setting on each branch.
And most amazingly I see the “flowers” on each branch of my huge oak tree that will soon turn into acorns.
This week try to look closely at your super green, fat leafed, abundantly flowering plants as Spring begins.
Does an Eclipse affect Plants?
Yes, it can. As the eclipse occurs some plants close their petals completely while others follow the sun as the moon moves over it.
Winds that are blowing can completely stop and change directions when the eclipse ends.
Enjoy this week full of Nature’s wonders.
